Senior Director of Translational Medicine , AstraZeneca

Asaf Rotem, PhD, is a Senior Director in Global Genomics, Translational Medicine at AstraZeneca Oncology R&D. He established cross-site pipelines for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in clinical programs and has led external clinical research studies. Previously at Dana-Farber and the Broad Institute, he helped pioneer single-cell RNA-seq in human tumors, co-led multi-institutional collaborations, and advanced discoveries in immunotherapy resistance, the tumor microenvironment, and cancer biology.

He is an inventor on multiple patents, has advised multinational companies, and has co-authored landmark papers in Nature Medicine, Cell, Science, and Cancer Cell. Trained at the Weizmann Institute, the Technion, and Harvard Medical School, his work focuses on integrating multimodal single-cell analytics- genomic, spatial, and functional- into clinical settings to elucidate therapy mechanisms of action, characterize tumor dynamics under pharmacologic stress, and drive biomarker development, trial design, and patient stratification.
