Denis Bienroth
Denis Bienroth is a software engineer and bioinformatician at the Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics research group within the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) in Melbourne, Australia. With a background in Electrical and Software Engineering from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, his career has spanned medical AI applications at DFKI and the Fraunhofer Institute, cloud-based knowledge management in industry, and since 2021, computational biology.
At MCRI, Denis develops tools for the automated analysis, visualisation, and biological interpretation of omics and high-throughput sequencing data. He is the lead developer of VR-Omics, a free, platform-agnostic spatial transcriptomics framework enabling end-to-end automated analysis and immersive 3D visualisation, published in Genome Biology in 2025. The work revealed previously undetected transcriptional signatures in rare paediatric cardiac tumours.
