Jonathan O’Connell is Head of Drug Discovery Automation and Transformation at Takeda, where he is helping create Takeda’s “Lab of the Future” - building the scientific capability and highly automated physical infrastructure for both the “Test” and “Make” elements of the DMTA cycle for both small molecules and biologics. This infrastructure is designed to enable 24/7 operation and closed-loop cycles between experiments and computation.

A biochemist and enzymologist by training with 29 years’ experience in preclinical drug discovery, Jonathan has led platform teams spanning automated chemistry, compound management, HTS, DEL, assay design, ADME and lead optimization, with deep experience integrating AI/ML into early discovery workflows. Previously, he was Head of Discovery Platform at Dewpoint Therapeutics and Vice President, Early Discovery & Technology at Valo Health, and held senior leadership roles at FORMA Therapeutics and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
