Mukesh Verma

Chief, Cancer Epidemiology , Genomics Research Program, NCI (NIH)

Mukesh Verma, PhD, serves as the chief of the Methods and Technologies Branch (MTB) within the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He is responsible for overseeing the research portfolio and initiatives that aim to enhance methods for epidemiologic data collection, study design, and analysis. Additionally, he works on adapting technological approaches developed in other research contexts for application as biomarkers and methods to comprehend cancer susceptibility.

Prior to his tenure at EGRP, Dr. Verma held the position of program director in the Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP) at NCI, where he focused on cancer biomarkers, early detection, risk assessment, and prevention strategies. He also coordinated the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs within DCP. Before his affiliation with the NIH, he was a faculty member in the Biochemistry Department at Georgetown University.

Dr. Verma is an active member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Personalized Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Epigenetics, and Technologies in Cancer Research and Treatment. He is also affiliated with the Cancer Epigenetics Society. With over 150 publications to his credit, he has edited six books in the domains of epigenetics, biomarkers, virology, and epidemiology.
