Shameer Khader
Shameer Khader leads the Global Computational Biology Cluster within the Target Disease & Systems Biology department at Sanofi, based in Cambridge, MA. With over a decade of experience at the intersection of biomedical data science, machine learning, and drug discovery, he drives the integration of AI and computational approaches to accelerate the identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets. He leverages approaches including generative, agentic and language AI technologies to optimize drug target discovery, development, and indication expansion.
Prior to Sanofi, Shameer held senior leadership roles at AstraZeneca, Mayo Clinic, Mount Sinai, Northwell Health, and Philips Healthcare, building and scaling bioinformatics and precision medicine teams across academia and industry. He holds a PhD in Computational Biology from the National Center for Biological Sciences (India), an MPH from Imperial College London, and completed postdoctoral training in computational genomics at the Mayo Clinic.
Shameer has contributed to over 150 peer-reviewed publications, research abstracts and patents and is the creator of RepurposeDB, a drug repurposing resource recognized with the SIB Bioinformatics Resource Innovation Award. He has been named among the 100 AI Leaders in Drug Discovery & Healthcare, and his work has been featured in Forbes, Bloomberg News and Fast Company.
