Sonja Hess is the Senior Director of Dynamic Omics at the Center of Genomics Research (CGR) in Discovery Sciences, AstraZeneca. Her expertise spans proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and precision medicine. Since joining AstraZeneca in February 2017, she has led a team specializing in mass spectrometry-based omics technologies, flow cytometry, and imaging. Her team employs biophysical and omics techniques to support the drug discovery pipeline, from target identification and validation to providing mechanistic insights and, identifying biomarker candidates integral to AstraZeneca's precision medicine efforts. Before her current role, she served as the Director of the Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry Facility at the NIDDK/National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, and later as the Director of the Proteomics Exploration Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, CA. She obtained her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in 1999 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Biosciences, and Psychology at the University of Leipzig. Throughout her career, Sonja has made significant contributions to drug discovery and the understanding of human biology.
