Jessica is EMBL’s Chief of Strategy and is responsible for developing and shaping EMBL’s strategic planning across its six sites. A key component is the development of EMBL’s fiveyear scientific and operational Programme 2022–2026 ‘Molecules to Ecosystems’. Jessica applies human-centred strategy approaches to drive forward EMBL’s research, scientific services, training, innovation and operations so as to realise scientific and stakeholder impacts at the highest level.
Jessica joined EMBL in 2016 as a Strategy Officer for EMBL-EBI and later as Head of EMBL-EBI’s Strategic Partnership Office, responsible for strategy and industry initiatives.
Prior to joining EMBL, Jessica held several roles at GSK, as the founding Operations Director for Open Targets, an innovative public-private partnership, and a Team Leader in GSK Computational Biology, working with discovery scientists in many therapeutic areas.
She spent over six years at The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) in Maryland, US working on many pathogen genome sequencing projects and a year at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in human genome annotation. She also taught as a Lecturer in Molecular Evolution at University College London.
Jessica holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from University College London, an MSc in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Sydney.
