Nicola is a Research Nurse at the Neonatal Intensive care unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Manchester. Nicola was involved in a research study on the Pharmacogenetic to Avoid Loss of Hearing (PALOH) study. The team developed a rapid bedside genetic test which was piloted in 2022, which helps to prevent permanent hearing loss in babies who carry the gene that causes permanent hearing loss when given a common emergency antibiotic, Gentamicin.
