Ralf Weber
Assistant Professor, Director of Bioinformatics
University of Birmingham, Phenome Centre Birmingham (PCB)

Ralf Weber earned his BSc in Bioinformatics from the HAN University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands, and completed a PhD in computational mass spectrometry-based metabolomics at the University of Birmingham in 2010. He worked as a Research Fellow on clinical, toxicological, and computational projects before being appointed Director of Bioinformatics for the Phenome Centre Birmingham in 2018. Since 2021, he has led the computational metabolomics research group at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on developing innovative data processing, biostatistics, and data mining approaches, enabling deeper biochemical annotation and more insightful interpretation of complex metabolomics data, particularly in the context of human health and toxicology. Additionally, he has a strong interest in the characterisation of model organism metabolomes and comparative metabolomics to enhance our understanding of biochemical processes across biological systems. He strongly supports standardisation in metabolomics, from reporting experimental data and metadata to using accessible and reproducible computational workflows.
