Tobias von der Haar is Professor of Systems Biology at the University of Kent. His research group have studied how eukaryotic mRNAs are translated into protein, and how the process of protein synthesis is regulated, since 2006, combining experimental and computational approaches to address these problems. Over time the group's interest in natural genes changed to an interest in designing efficient gene sequences for applications in industry and medicine, and most recently Tobias' group worked on the problem of designing efficient sequences for protein coding RNA Therapeutics. Their current goal is the development of design software that can generate top-performing, manufacturable and safe RNA sequences reliably for any specified cargo protein.
