Christian Ottensmeier MD PhD FRCP is a medical oncologist who trained at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster, Germany, followed by a fellowship at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. He completed his PhD in molecular immunology in Southampton; he was appointed to a chair in Experimental Cancer Medicine there in 2007 and in 2019 to an Associate Professorship at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology, CA, USA. He joined the University of Liverpool, the Liverpool Head and Neck Center and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre as Professor of Immuno-Oncology in August 2020. Since January 2022 he serves as the Director for Clinical Research at Clatterbridge Cancer Center. He leads an early phase portfolio of trials to deliver more effective immunotherapy with a focus on head and neck cancer and lung cancer. His laboratory studies how best to induce tumour-antigen specific immunity through vaccination and how to overcome immune suppressive features of the tumour microenvironment.
