Professor Nadeem Qureshi graduated from University College London Medical School in 1986, completed a diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG) in 1989 and a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (DGM) in 1990. He became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) with Distinction in 1991, and achieved his MSc in Health Service Research & Technology Assessment (with distinction) in 1999 from the University of Sheffield. He came to the University of Nottingham as a Research Fellow in General Practice in 1992, and completed his Doctorate in 2006. Between 2004 and 2005 he was awarded a US Harkness fellowship based in the Office of Public Health Genomics at the Center of Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. In 2011 he was appointed as a Clinical Professor of Primary Care at the University of Nottingham. Professor Qureshi is one of the leading experts on Primary Care Genomics in the United Kingdom. He leads an internationally recognised group that focuses on stratifying patients' care according to characteristics identified in primary care databases and through genomic testing, developed, in tandem with advances in genomic technology and ""big data"" research methods. The current research and development falls into two broad research method areas: 1) Data Science (Exemplar work includes stratifying care of patients with raised cholesterol) 2) Mixed Methods Translational Research (Exemplar studies include improved identification of familial breast cancer) Professor Qureshi is also actively involved in mainstreaming genomics into clinical practice through participation in national guideline development groups and working with Genome England and NHS England Professor Qureshi is actively involved in research training of academic general practitioners and trainees. He also supervises both local and overseas PhD students and research-based Masters dissertations.
