Anthony Hall leads the Decoding Biodiversity Institute Strategic Programme at the Earlham Institute. His research group investigates how genetic variation, genes, and genome architecture underpin important adaptive traits, with a particular focus on wheat and other grasses. The group also explores how genomic variation can be harnessed through genome engineering, genomics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to accelerate crop improvement. 

Anthony has extensive experience leading national and international wheat genomics collaborations. He works with partners across academia, industry, and plant-breeding programmes to translate biological discoveries into practical tools for crop resilience and sustainability. 

His research is funded by BBSRC, Innovate UK, and ARIA. He is co-chair of BBSRC’s Applicant-Led Funding Committee B, and is a co-founder of TraitSeq Ltd, an AI and machine-learning company applying advanced computational approaches to biological and agricultural challenges.
