Conceição Bettencourt
Dr Conceição Bettencourt is a Professorial Research Fellow at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (London, UK). She is also the co-lead for the Genetics and Omics Working Group from the Deep Dementia Phenotyping (DEMON) Network, an international network for the application of data science and AI to dementia research.
Conceição received her PhD in Genetics from the University of the Azores (Portugal) in 2010. During her postdoctoral career, she has worked in different labs across different countries, and built a strong background in neurogenetics/genomics, epigenomics and bioinformatics. Having been awarded independent funding from the Alzheimer’s Research UK and the MSA Trust UK, Conceição is growing her own research team. She is interested in using multi-omics data, including epigenomics and transcriptomics, derived from post-mortem human brain tissue and blood, to obtain a deeper understanding of disrupted molecular pathways underlying neurodegenerative diseases, such as frontotemporal dementias, as well as biological ageing.
