Deborah Porter

Deborah Porter has held the appointment of Deputy Director at NHS England since June 2020. Her transformation portfolio includes Operational and Service Management, Informatics and Workforce Development, with particular emphasis on Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery.

Prior to taking up the role at NHS England, she spent three decades in British Army uniform, with the last 24 years in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Her last role as a Colonel was Deputy Commander of the Joint Hospital Group, which comprised approximately 2,500 military personnel working across the NHS when not on operations or exercise.

In 2015, she left a year's secondment at the University Hospital Birmingham, where she was Programme Manager for the recently established Genomic Medicine Centre, to take up the role of Command Medical Officer at the NATO headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, where she managed the input of 29 nations to the development of a multi-national medical informatics system, amongst other transformational projects.
