Elvira Bramon

Professor Elvira Bramon is a clinician scientist specialising in neuroscience in severe mental disorders. She completed her medical degree at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and then her early specialist psychiatry training (MIR) at the Hospital Mútua de Terrassa – Universitat de Barcelona. In 1999, she moved to the Institute of Psychiatry – King's College London and Maudsley Hospital to do her PhD and further training in psychiatry. She has always combined research, clinical and teaching activities. She held several academic posts at the Institute of Psychiatry, from clinical lecturer to associate professor, and worked at the Maudsley Hospital as a consultant psychiatrist. Elvira held a Wellcome Trust research training fellowship, subsequently an NIHR postdoctoral fellowship, and then an MRC New Investigator Award. She moved to UCL in 2012 to develop biological research in mental health, with a joint appointment between the Division of Psychiatry and the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. She initially served as Head of the Mental Health Neuroscience Research Department at the UCL Division of Psychiatry, and is currently Director of the UCL Division of Psychiatry.
