Eva Winnebeck

Associate Professor in Chronobiology, University of Surrey

Dr Eva Winnebeck is currently a Lecturer in Chronobiology at the University of Surrey where she leads the Sleep Rhythm Ecology Lab. Her research focuses on biological rhythms in and around human sleep, how these rhythms are influenced by internal and external factors such as genetics, age or societal timing and how this links with outcomes such as health and well-being.

Dr Winnebeck is a regular speaker at national and international conferences, teaches sleep rhythm biology for the British Sleep Society and the European Sleep Research Society and is an elected member to the Scientific Committee of the European Sleep Research Society. Dr Winnebeck has also led and contributed to policy efforts including government consultancies and learned-society white papers on issues including school start times and daylight saving time.

Dr Winnebeck trained in biomedical science in Germany and New Zealand, obtained her PhD in Anaesthesiology (Chronobiology) from the University of Auckland and worked as scientist and senior scientist at world-leading rhythms and sleep research groups at the Ludwig Maximilan University Munich, the Technical University Munich and the Helmholtz Centre Munich before joining the long-standing human chronobiology research at the University of Surrey in 2022.
