Mr Frank McDermott is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Genomics Lead for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is Acting Clinical Director for the South West Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (SW GMSA) and Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Exeter. Frank chairs the South West Regional Expert Network for Lynch Syndrome and Polyposis, supporting delivery of hereditary cancer services across the region, and serves as Editor of BJS Open. His research focuses on the epigenetics of diverticulitis and hernia formation, and on genomic and molecular diagnostics in colorectal cancer. Nationally, he leads initiatives to integrate genomics into surgical practice and training, promoting equitable access to genomic testing across the NHS. His work bridges clinical care, research, and leadership in service design, advancing the role of genomics in modern surgical care.
