Georgia Whitton
Georgia is a Senior Bioinformatician working at the Francis Crick Institute in the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (BABS) Scientific Technology Platform (STP). Her work spans bioinformatics analyses and data science collaborations with researchers at the Crick across multiple disease areas and modalities, designing and delivering technical training courses and community building.
Georgia trained in Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of East Anglia, completing her thesis and graduate internship in Bioinformatics at the Earlham Institute. After moving to the Sanger Institute in Cambridge, Georgia worked as a Genomic Data Scientist for the MalariaGEN consortium and was part of the Covid-19 genomic surveillance data analysis team. After a few years, she moved to the Crick, initially in the Cancer Dynamics team, working on image analysis for the TracerX Renal study before joining the core BABS team.
Alongside her main work, Georgia has partnered with Code First Girls, teaching multiple cohorts of women and non-binary folk through data science up-skilling courses, and is passionate about making the learning of data skills more accessible, including generating online video content.
