Gosia Trynka
Gosia Trynka is a leader in human genetics, functional genomics and immunology, focused on understanding how genetic variation shapes immune cell function and contributes to human disease. She leads a research group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and is the Science Director at Open Targets, a public–private partnership between academia and industry that uses human genetics and multiomics data to systematically identify and prioritise therapeutic targets.
Her research centres on dissecting the mechanisms by which immune disease-associated variants influence gene regulation and cellular behaviour. Her group combines large-scale single-cell transcriptomics, CRISPR-based perturbations, and high-content imaging to build a multi-dimensional view of cellular states. By integrating these data using machine learning approaches, her work aims to connect genetic variation to functional consequences at scale.
Through her role at Open Targets and her academic work, Gosia works closely with partners across academia and the pharmaceutical industry to translate genetic insights into actionable therapeutic hypotheses. Her work contributes to advancing our understanding of immune-mediated diseases and to accelerating the discovery of new treatment strategies.
