Ilaria Bellantuono

Professor of Musculoskeletal Ageing, University of Sheffield

Ilaria Bellantuono is Professor of Musculoskeletal Ageing and Co-Director of the Healthy Lifespan Institute at the University of Sheffield. She co-leads UKAgeNet, a national network bringing together more than 70 UK organisations to strengthen the evidence base for healthy ageing policy.

Her research focuses on developing geroprotectors to prevent frailty and multiple long-term conditions. She led the EU-funded Mouse Age Network, bringing together 200 scientists from 25 countries, and led the development of a consensus roadmap for translating geroprotectors towards clinical application. Her work has helped reframe their potential use towards targeting frailty and multiple long-term conditions. 

In 2024, she received the Vivensa Foundation Excellence in Leadership Award in recognition of her contribution to ageing research.
