Joshua Bull
Joshua Bull is a Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute, where he leads the Quantitative Spatial Biology group. His research combines mathematical modelling and quantitative spatial analysis to understand how biological structures emerge across scales in health and disease.
Joshua completed his PhD at the University of Oxford's Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology, where he investigated how immune cells organise within solid tumours using mechanistic models of cellular interactions and spatial behaviour.
Through postdoctoral fellowships funded by EPSRC and Cancer Research UK, he developed mathematical and statistical approaches to characterise the complex spatial organisation of biological tissues. Working closely with experimental and clinical collaborators, he has applied these methods to diverse datasets, including single-cell spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, CT scans and microscopy.
Since joining the Francis Crick Institute in 2026, Joshua has focused on integrating quantitative spatial analysis with mechanistic modelling to better understand tissue organisation and the biological processes underlying health and disease.
