Joyce Harper

Joyce Harper is an award-winning educator, author, podcaster, academic, and scientist. She is Professor of Reproductive Science at University College London, in the Institute for Women's Health, where she is Head of the Reproductive Science and Society Group.

She has worked in the fields of fertility, genetics and reproductive science since 1987, has written over 240 scientific papers, and has published three books. She started her career as an embryologist, before moving into reproductive science and genetics. Her current research spans fertility and reproductive health education, FemTech, IVF add-ons, gamete donation, the menopause, and cold-water swimming and reproductive health. She is a member of the Reproductive Health and Cold-Water Swimming research team.

She leads the development of a National Menopause Education and Support Programme, with support from University College London, the British Menopause Society, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Wellbeing of Women, and the Sophia Foundation.

Joyce is a passionate educator at all levels, from the general public to PhD students. She is invited to numerous international meetings, including for keynote and plenary lectures, and regularly appears on TV, radio and in the press. She gives talks for companies to help them understand fertility issues in the workplace, including the menopause, and is an ambassador for This Girl Can.

She holds several leadership and founding roles across the sector: she is a Director of the Embryology and PGD Academy, which delivers an online certificate in clinical embryology; founder of Global Women Connected and of Reproductive Health at Work, which helps companies ensure that the reproductive health needs of their staff are met; co-founder of the UK Fertility Education Initiative; and founder of the International Reproductive Health Education Collaboration, through which she works with schools in the UK and globally to help deliver reproductive health education.
