Kelly gained a degree in Biomedical Sciences, followed by a PhD in medical genetics at Plymouth University. Her doctoral work was focused on cell-free DNA enrichment for non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).
During this time, she used qPCR, ddPCR and sequencing to analyse foetal DNA extracted from maternal blood samples. She then did a 1-year post-doc on Rh blood group genotyping using sequencing and ddPCR.
She has worked for Bio-Rad in 2017, first as the North UK Field Application Specialist for Genomics and since 2021 as the ddPCR Regional Application Specialist for Northern Europe
