Dr Lennard Lee is a medical oncologist and Associate Professor at the University of Oxford. He is internationally recognised for pioneering the application of artificial intelligence to cancer research and is leading efforts to transform how new medicines are discovered using AI, genomics, and autonomous laboratory systems. 

His research focuses on developing personalised cancer vaccines and harnessing the immune system to treat cancer. He leads the UK’s Cancer Vaccine AI Scientist and Supercomputer Programme, bringing together sovereign AI supercomputing, foundation models, robotics, and laboratory automation to create AI scientists capable of accelerating the discovery and development of next-generation cancer therapies. 

Alongside his academic work, Dr Lee has held numerous national leadership roles across the NHS and UK Government. He serves on the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s National College of Experts and is a National AI Research Resource Ambassador, helping shape the UK’s strategy for AI in science and healthcare. He works closely with policymakers, researchers, industry, and charities to translate scientific innovation into real-world patient benefit. 

Dr Lee has received multiple national awards recognising his contributions to AI, cancer research, and healthcare innovation, including honours from the UK Government Office for Science and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals, including The Lancet and JAMA. 

His work is helping define a new era of medicine, where AI scientists transform genomic data into life-saving treatments, bringing the promise of AI to benefit patients around the world.
