Professor of Microbiome and Systems Biology, Nottingham Trent University

Lesley Hoyles is Professor of Microbiome and Systems Biology at Nottingham Trent University. Her research team's work focuses on characterizing host–microbiota interactions, combining microbiology and bioinformatics approaches in vitro and in vivo to understand how members of the gastrointestinal microbiota function and influence human health and disease.

She has made seminal contributions to understanding how microbiome-associated metabolites contribute to fatty liver disease, integrity of the blood–brain barrier and, more recently, to the human exposome.
