Matthew Loose

Professor of Developmental and Computational Biology, University of Nottingham

Professor Matt Loose is based in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham. He has had a long interest in computational biology and its application to understanding developmental processes, genome structure and function, and, more recently, cancer diagnostics. His laboratory has developed new methods for sequencing, including both wet and dry approaches.

Alongside his research group, he heads up DeepSeq, the University of Nottingham Next Generation Sequencing Facility, which specialises in long-read technology. DeepSeq has been involved in projects ranging from the sequencing of the first human sample on Nanopore and the first direct RNA sequencing on Nanopore, to more recently helping establish intra-operative sequencing of tumour samples.
