Marco Maccaferri

Marco Maccaferri is Associate Professor of Agricultural Genetics at the University of Bologna, specialising in wheat genetics, genomics and crop improvement. His research focuses particularly on durum and tetraploid wheat, using genomic diversity to identify alleles associated with agronomically important traits including disease resistance, drought and heat tolerance. He has contributed to major international wheat genomics initiatives, including the wild emmer and durum wheat genome projects, and works extensively on association mapping, molecular markers, phenotyping and pre-breeding. His current research is exploring large-scale wheat diversity resources and pangenomics to accelerate trait discovery and translate genomic findings into breeding, genomic selection and gene-editing applications.
