Martin Maiden

Professor of Molecular Epidemiology, University of Oxford

Martin Maiden is a molecular microbiologist trained at the Universities of Reading and Cambridge.  He worked for nine years at the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control, including a one-year sabbatical in Germany, joining the Oxford in 1997 as a Wellcome Trust Senior Fellow.  

He became Professor of Molecular Epidemiology and a Fellow of Hertford College in 2004, and is currently the Head of the Department of Biology.  His research applies molecular and evolutionary approaches to studying bacterial populations, with an emphasis on translation to infectious disease control, especially vaccination.  He is a committed educator, advisor, and academic administrator.
