His research interest is in the application of novel technologies to human brain tissue to study disease pathogenesis and improve diagnostics for precision medicine.
The current focus is on mass spectrometry and long-read sequencing to define selective vulnerability of specific brain cells in motor neuron disease and improve histomolecular diagnostics of rare cancers of the craniospinal axis.
Olaf is also leading Brain BioLink, a strategic MRC project to facilitate access to living tissues for researchers in academia and industry.
