
Panicos Shangaris
Dr. Panicos Shangaris is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and a Consultant in Maternal–Fetal Medicine at King’s College Hospital. He completed subspecialty training in obstetrics and fetal medicine in 2023 and earned a PhD in Fetal Medicine from University College London, where his research focused on in utero gene therapy for genetic blood disorders. He subsequently deepened his expertise in fetal immunology and gene editing through a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Academic Lectureship (2019–2023).
Dr Shangaris now leads a translational research group and has secured multiple research grants, including Medical Research Council and Fetal Medicine Foundation awards, to advance prenatal genomic therapies, such as in utero gene editing for sickle cell disease. In his clinical leadership role, he drives the integration of cutting-edge innovations into fetal medicine practice while providing specialist care for high-risk pregnancies.
