Irene Papatheodorou
Professor Irene Papatheodorou is the Head of Data Science at the Earlham Institute, where she leads a group of scientists working at the cutting edge of data-intensive bioscience. Her work focuses on developing software and metadata standards for sharing 'omics data and images, as well as advancing single-cell genomics to decode biological phenotypes.
Prior to joining the Earlham Institute, she was a Team Leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). While there, she was instrumental in developing the Single Cell Expression Atlas, a core resource for single-cell transcriptomics data, and led key efforts to establish community-wide metadata standards and analysis workflows.
Professor Papatheodorou holds a BSc in Genetics from University College London, an MSc in Bioinformatics, and a PhD in Computer Science from Imperial College London.
