Professor Sarah Ennis is an internationally recognised leader in genomics, biomedical data science, and personalised medicine.

She is Professor of Genomics at the University of Southampton, where she directs the Genomic Informatics Group and leads the Human Genetics & Genomic Medicine (HGGM) theme within the School of Human Development and Health. Her research integrates genomic and multi‑omic data with clinical records to create AI‑enabled tools that improve diagnosis, prediction, and treatment for patients. She bridges academia, the NHS, and industry—serving as Research Director for the Central & South NHS Genomic Medicine Service Alliance and as a co‑applicant in NHS England’s Genomic Artificial Intelligence Network of Excellence—while advising national and international research and policy bodies.

She leads collaborative projects with Genomics England and UK Biobank, has authored ~200 peer‑reviewed publications (H‑index 50), and her work has been cited in 28 government policy documents. She holds a first‑class BSc in Biochemistry (NUI Galway) and a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology (Southampton), is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and founded the University’s MSc in Genomic Medicine and the HEE‑approved “Primer in Genomic Medicine.”
