Stephen Franks

Emeritus Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology, Imperial College London

Stephen Franks is Emeritus Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology at Imperial College London. He is a clinical endocrinologist whose research focuses on the normal and disordered function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, with a major interest in polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). His research includes a particular focus on the interaction between genetic and environmental factors in the aetiology of the syndrome.

His work has contributed to understanding of the causes and management of PMOS and the complex factors underlying the syndrome. He is particularly interested in why PMOS is much more than simply a reproductive disorder, and in the importance of continued research to better understand its wider metabolic and endocrine implications.
