Professor and Group Leader, John Innes Centre
Professor Steven Penfield is a Group Leader at the John Innes Centre and Programme Leader for Building Robustness in Crops (BRiC). His research focuses on how weather and climate affect plant reproductive development, seed quality and crop performance, with a particular interest in the effects of temperature on yield and crop establishment. His group works across Brassica crops, including oilseed rape, as well as Arabidopsis, combining plant biology, genetics and field-based research to understand the mechanisms underlying climate resilience and identify opportunities for crop improvement through breeding and genome editing.
