Praveen Surendran

Associate Director of Applied and Statistical Genetics , GSK

Dr. Praveen Surendran is Associate Director of Human Genetics and Genomics at GSK, where he leads research integrating human genetics with advanced statistical and multiomics methodologies to accelerate drug target discovery and development. Prior to joining GSK in 2021, he spent over eight years at the University of Cambridge, most recently as a Senior Research Associate and Rutherford Fund Fellow at Health Data Research UK within the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit.

Dr. Surendran obtained his PhD in Cardiovascular Genetics from University College Dublin and has conducted research at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Indian Institute of Science. His expertise encompasses large-scale genetic analyses, cardiovascular disease, and the application of population-based genomics to precision medicine. He has published extensively in high-impact journals on cardiovascular genetics and the genetic determinants of the human metabolome and proteome. At Cambridge, he led collaborative research integrating genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data to elucidate the genetic regulation of the human molecular phenome, a research focus he continues at GSK by combining genetics, genomics, and observational multiomics data to inform therapeutic target identification, translation to support clinical development of portfolio targets and precision medicine.
