Tim Mauchline

Plant and Soil Microbiologist, Rothamsted Research
Tim Mauchline is a Principal Research Scientist in Soil and Plant Microbiology at Rothamsted Research. His research explores crop-associated microbiomes, particularly those of wheat, to improve agricultural sustainability and resilience. Using molecular microbiology, microbial ecology and genomics he investigates how microbial communities support nutrient cycling, plant health, stress tolerance, and disease suppression. A key focus is understanding how wheat genotype, fertilizer management, and soil conditions interact to shape root microbiome structure and function, influencing crop productivity and resource-use efficiency. He also plays a leading role in the UK Crop Microbiome Cryobank, a developing resource to support future agricultural innovation.
