Timothy Walsh

Professor of Medical Microbiology and Director of Biology, University of Oxford
Professor Timothy Walsh is Professor of Medical Microbiology at the University of Oxford and Director of Biology at the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research. His research focuses on the emergence, transmission and global burden of antimicrobial resistance, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. He has led major international studies examining neonatal sepsis, antibiotic resistance and access to effective diagnostics, including the BARNARDS programme. His work combines microbiology, genomics and global health research to understand how resistance spreads across healthcare, community and environmental settings, and to support the development of sustainable interventions for regions carrying the greatest burden of AMR.
