Tommy Kaplan
Professor Tommy Kaplan is a computational biologist exploring one of biology’s most remarkable questions: how the same genome can generate the extraordinary diversity of cells, tissues and states that make up the human body. His research investigates how the genome is epigenetically annotated, interpreted and regulated across tissues, individuals, ages and conditions.
His group develops computational and machine learning approaches to study DNA methylation, chromatin and genomic variation, revealing how methylation is controlled, how it changes over time, and how it is shaped by genetics, environment, sex and disease. Recent work from his lab includes human DNA methylation atlases, methylation-based studies of ageing and biological variation, and liquid biopsy approaches that read epigenetic signals from circulating cell-free DNA. He is Professor of Computational Biology at Queen Mary University of London and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
