Senior Clinical Advisor, NHS Race and Health Observatory

Veline L'esperance is the Senior Clinical Advisor at the NHS Race and Health Observatory. Veline is passionate about health policy, leadership and quality improvement within the NHS. She feels this scheme will provide invaluable experience in greater understanding of the NHS and how the political and economic arena impacts the work of clinicians and ultimately the care of patients.

She completed her undergraduate medical degree in Southampton where she developed an academic interest in paediatric neurology and microcirculation physiology. During her Academic Foundation Training in London, she continued her research investigating the predictors of strokes in children with Sickle Cell Anaemia in Tanzania and the role of the autonomic nervous systems in Bolivian children in adaptation to high altitude.

Veline also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Health Sciences from Queens University in Ontario, Canada and a master's degree in health care policy and management from the University of Birmingham. Prior to embarking on a career in medicine, Veline worked as a Research Executive in the pharmaceutical industry. Veline also has experience in international healthcare policy and management, having previously investigated the feasibility of developing a National Health Insurance Scheme in the British Virgin Islands.
