Senior Lecturer ,  Cardiff University

Dr. Yasir Syed is a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience and Principal Investigator at the Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute, Cardiff University. His research focuses on how genetic risk factors—particularly high-risk copy number variants such as 3q29 and 1q21.1—shape brain development and contribute to neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. By integrating patient-derived iPSC models with multi-omics approaches, Dr. Syed has identified druggable mechanistic pathways, paving the way for targeted interventions to alleviate clinical symptoms. He also leads projects using advanced organoid systems to explore neuronal and glial biology, synaptic signalling, and neuroinflammation, driving innovation in translational neuroscience.
