Team Leader, Genomics Technology Infrastructure, EMBL-EBI

Andy Yates is the Team Leader for the Genomics Technology Infrastructure (GTI) team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) and a joint-PI of the Ensembl project.

His team develops large-scale analysis and visualisation systems for genomic data, providing researchers with an open-source platform to explore genes and variations from across the tree of life. Since 2017, Andy has been a key contributor to the Global Alliance for Genomics & Health (GA4GH), where he currently serves as the lead host institute representative for EMBL-EBI.

He previously co-led the Genomic Knowledge Standards work stream and has been instrumental in developing key standards, including Refget Sequences, Variation Representation Specification, Service Info, and Refget Sequence Collections shaping how genomic data is represented and shared worldwide.
