Yogesh Gupta
Dr Yogesh Kumar Gupta is a Senior Scientist and Project Lead at the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), where he leads the Genomics for Animal and Plant Disease Consortium (GAP-DC). This multi-agency initiative brings together APHA, the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), The Pirbright Institute, Fera Science, and Forest Research to integrate the pathogen surveillance across sectors using cutting-edge genomic technologies.
Yogesh has over a decade of experience in genomics, and its application to pathogen surveillance. He has led major international genome sequencing programmes, with expertise spanning whole-genome sequencing, metagenomics, molecular diagnostics, and large-scale surveillance systems. Before joining APHA, he led programmes at The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) and contributed to multiple high-impact pathogen genomics studies.
He works across government and research organisations to advance integrated One Health genomic surveillance and strengthen the UK’s biosecurity.
