Abstract

Background/Aims: NURTuRE is a groundbreaking national resource transforming the landscape of kidney research. It uniquely integrates genomic data with biomarker profiles, residual biological samples, imaging, and longitudinal clinical information from nearly 4,000 participants living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS), with more disease cohorts on the horizon. By connecting these diverse datasets, NURTuRE enables researchers and industry partners to accelerate discovery, from genetic insights to biomarker validation and drug development, on an unprecedented scale in renal science. The need has never been greater. In 2021, there were an estimated 673.7 million cases of CKD worldwide, contributing to 1.53 million deaths. Meanwhile, the global CKD drug market was valued at US $13.2 billion in 2021, projected to reach US $19.8 billion by 2030, a clear signal of both unmet medical need and opportunity for innovation. At the Festival of Genomics, we are excited to unveil a new initiative that will support innovative genomics projects harnessing the power of NURTuRE. Together, we aim to catalyse the next wave of breakthroughs in kidney disease biology, diagnostics, and therapeutics turning data into discoveries that make a real difference for patients.
