Talkaoke is taking place between 11am - 6pm on day 1 and 11am -5pm on day 2 the main exhibition floor.  Talkaoke is open for all topics but there are certain discussion themes (set out below) that will be taking place at certain times during the Festival.

Specific Themed Discussions

Day 1

11:30: What’s Holding Advanced Therapies Back?

Advanced therapies are moving rapidly from scientific breakthroughs towards clinical application, but significant barriers roadblock their widespread adoption.

This session will explore the biggest challenges preventing advanced therapies from reaching more patients, from manufacturing and infrastructure to regulation, funding and clinical delivery. We are trying to answer: what needs to change to turn scientific potential into real impact?

14:30  Trust in AI - If an AI model is 99% accurate but cannot explain how it got the answer, do you trust it?

Will AI replace the empathy needed in genetic counselling? Who gets the blame when an algorithm misdiagnoses a rare disease? Trusting autopilot on a plane versus trusting a medical AI with your life.

16:30 What’s the wildest thing we should do with genomics?

Cure disease, build vaccines, engineer biology, bring back the woolly mammoth? Where do YOU draw the line? What's the coolest application of genomics that you have seen to date.

Day 2

11:30: Crystal Ball on Data Security

With advances in AI, big data and data generation, we’re learning some important lessons about how we should be generating, storing and analysing the data securely. But, as things continue to advance, we don’t know what we don’t know.

In this discussion we’re talking about future-proofing our data security measures, and how we can adapt in real time to new advances.

16:10: How will AI change my job?

While we’re far from worrying about AI “stealing” our jobs, there is pressure for the workforce to become AI-competent.

In this session we will discuss what the future of the workforce looks like, our digital skills gap and what you can do now to help yourself.
